What to know before buying
- Voltage. 12V and 24V — 24V is better over long runs because brightness stays even;
- Power per metre. 14.4W/m for main lighting; 4–7W/m for decorative use;
- Colour temperature. 3000K — warm (living spaces), 4000K — neutral (office), 6000K — cool white;
- Protection rating. IP20 is for indoor use only; wet areas and outdoor installations need IP65 or higher;
- Power supply. Calculate the load (W/m × metres) and add a 20% margin.
