What to look for
- Unlocking methods. The best model supports a fingerprint, a code, a card and a mechanical key at the same time;
- Battery. Four AA cells typically last 6–12 months; the lock warns you automatically before they run out;
- Emergency key. A mechanical key or USB power input is essential;
- Door thickness. Check the door thickness and lock type — not every lock fits every door.

What happens if the battery dies?
Every smart lock has an emergency opening option: a mechanical key or external USB-C power. The lock starts warning you about two weeks before the battery runs out.
Will it fit any door?
