What a NAS gives you
- Centralised file storage — work documents in one place with access control;

- Virtual machines and Docker — internal services and test environments;
- Media server — streaming video and music across the network.
How many drives and which RAID
| Configuration | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| 2 drives | RAID 1 — a full mirror; data survives the loss of one drive |
| 4 drives | RAID 5 — a balance of capacity and safety |
| 6+ drives | RAID 6 — protected even if two drives fail at once |
Important: fit a NAS with NAS-grade drives (WD Red, Seagate IronWolf) — they are rated for 24/7 operation and built to resist vibration.

How much does a NAS cost in Georgia?
At ITGS QNAP NAS units range from 280₾ to 11,140₾. Two-bay home models cost 700₾–1100₾, four-bay business models 1800₾–3100₾, and rack models start at 4000₾. Drives are sold separately.
Are drives included in the price?
No. A NAS is sold diskless. We recommend NAS-grade drives — WD Red or Seagate IronWolf — which are rated for 24/7 operation.
How many bays do I need?
For a small office a 2-bay unit (RAID 1) is enough. For 10–50 staff, a 4-bay unit with RAID 5. For video archives and multiple services, 6 bays or more.
NAS or server?
A NAS is far cheaper, uses less power and is much simpler to administer. If you need virtualisation, a domain controller or heavy compute, a server is the better choice.
